Coffee Growing Regions of Ethiopia

There are many coffee-producing regions in Ethiopia (with many subsets). Each coffee-growing region produces a truly distinct coffee.

HARAR COFFEE

This coffee is always prepared through day processing. The raw appearance is grayish, and it has small/large (bold bean size). It possesses a rich mocha attractive appearance due to the existence of golden beans.

LEKEMPTI COFFEE

It grows in the western part the country at elivations between 4900 and 5900 feet above sea level ; In wollega especially Gimbi and Nekemte. Raw appearance is greenish, and its bean size is medium/large. It has a pleasant acidity and healthy body reminecent. It also has a distnict fruity flavor.

TEPPI COFFEE

This type of coffee is grown in and around the birth place of coffee KAFFAA ( The borth place of Coffee Arabica), Jimma and Illubabor. Most of the farms are situated at altitude between 4400 and 6000 feet above sea level. It’s both wet (washed) and dry processed.

SIDAMO COFFEE​

Raw appearance is greenish, and bean size is small/medium. It has a spicy taste and flowery fragrance/aroma. It also includes the spicy flavor of kembata and Amaro.

YIRGACHEFFE COFFEE​

Ethiopian Yergacheffes are amazing and unique coffees. Yergacheffe is a town in the Sidamo region of Ethiopia, and the coffees from this region will surprise you with their floral and tangerine notes. This coffee has bluish raw appearance and medium to large bean size (i.e. below screen 14 is up to 10%) its cup has floral of flowery fragrance/aroma and Lemony taste.

JIMMAH COFFEE

This type of coffee is grown in and around the birth place of coffee KAFFAA ( The borth place of Coffee Arabica), Jimma and Illubabor. Most of the farms are situated at altitude between 4400 and 6000 feet above sea level. It’s both wet (washed) and dry processed.

BEBEKA COFFEE

This coffee has grayish open center cut appearance, and its bean size is medium/large. Its cup quality has some herbal like taste of low land flavor.

LIMMU COFFEE​

It grows at an altitude of 3900 and 6200 feet in south western part of the country. It’s known for it’s greenish raw appearance. It is wet processed high quality coffee with low acidity with small/large bean size. It’s spicy and winey taste with flowery fragrance/aroma and it confused with sidama coffee by mere tasters due to similarities in flavor.
